simpleRTK2Blite with BLE/Bluetooth LE (or BT 4.0)

Is it possible to use a BLE bee instead of the BT 2.0 XBee board, which we bought with our simpleRTK2Blite+BT Case Kit? Has anybody experience with just replacing the delivered BT bee with something like this: or ?
Reason is that we want to connect to iOS/iPhone.
Thanks for your support

Hi Gerd,
the advantage of BT 2.0 is that the standard includes a mode of operation that works like a serial port, therefore any device with BT2 is compatible with serial port over BT2.
With BLE this is not the case. Serial Port profile is not standard but instead there are several propietary ones. This means that in order to use BLE you need to implement a custom library in your android/iOS app.

Therefore the answer to your question is yes, you can connect a BLE XBee plugin, but to make it work you will have to integrate a library in your android/iOS app, so it will not be plug-and-play.

Thanks a lot for your quick response. We will implement our own app, so no problem form the library/software side. I just wonder if we could expect the BLE bee to just receive the u-blox data and send it via the other BLE “plug-in” as today without any changes to the boards or config?
Again many thanks for your support!

So you can connect any BLE module to our board, but you need to confirm that it supports “serial port over bluetooth” mode, and if yes, enable it and configure at the same baudrate as simpleRTK2B.
